SHARE

verb
1. have a portion of (something) with another or others.
Paddy talks about one liners. What is yours?

Jesus.All. are two words that have become my one liner, my redefiner, my redesigner, my all. Jesus.
Here are some of the one liners Paddy referenced.
"One small step for one mad, one giant leap for mankind"
Neil Armstrong — Astronaut
"I have a dream"
Martin Luther King Jr — Minister and Activist
"We could do no great things, only small things with great love."
Mother Teresa — Nun and Missionary
"Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
John F Kennedy — President

What are we holding on to?

Khoreho - no room in their hearts.
I can remember when I was a student, one particular Friday night worship, I became convicted of my desperate need for God.  I went back to my room early and spent the time praying.  In particular I prayed that if there was anything at all coming between me and my relationship with God, that He would take it away.  I went soundly to sleep that night.  In the morning, I woke up to see that my door was open.  As I looked around my room I also saw that my bike was missing.  This was no ordinary bike - it was my racing bike.  I had become obsessed with cycle training and racing, to the point where my relationship with God, and with others was being compromised.

Consider making a list of the things in your life that could be compromising your walk with Jesus.  Would you dare ask him to help take those things away?

“They would kill him to hang on to their story.”

WATCH // Jesus Forgives a Woman's Sin
John 8 opens with the pharisees trying to trap Jesus again, using the law to condemn another. Watch this story and see what love does.
READ // Mere Christianity by C.S Lewis
"You must make your choice. Either this man is the son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet can fall him Lord and God  but let us not come with any patronising nonsense about his b being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. "

MAKE

verb
1. form (something) by putting parts together or combining substances; create.
2. cause (something) to exist or come about; bring about.
MAKE // A One Item Group Meal.
Sonya Reaves - USA
In college some friends of mine would regularly get together for a meal and each person would bring just ONE item to contribute to the meal. Spaghetti, eggs, lettuce, cheese, ketchup, etc. Once everyone came together they made the meal. It may not look like a “classic” meal but there is always enough for everyone to eat. Have each family member choose one item in the kitchen and see what you can make together.

TRY

verb
1. make an attempt or effort to do something. Use, test, or do (something new or different) in order to see if it is suitable, effective, or pleasant.
TRY // Pay It Forward
We can all do something for those around us. Here is what some have done to pay it forward:

@tanksgoodnews

“...it will be uncomfortable. It’ll be hard, but it may also change the world.”

Try something that’s different and maybe even difficult. Try making this world a little better. Start the adventure of doing something that makes you feel uncomfortable. You could start simple by getting a box or basket and placing one non perishable item in it each day for three weeks. At the end of that time, donate it to a food bank.
Here are some other ideas to start the adventure of changing the world.
Make a plan to give using an advent calendar like this one or put up some decorations to inspire your acts of kindness.

This website has some more ideas on how to pay it forward. I especially like the ideas of buying groceries for an elderly neighbor and sending an encouraging message to a loved one or friend.

PLAY

verb
1. engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation
PLAY // Follow the Leader
There is more than one way to get from point A to point B in a given space. Depending on who is leading, there can be wonderful ways to travel across a room (or a field) that you may never have thought of before!

How to Play: One person is designated as the leader as everyone else lines up an arm’s (or an appropriate 6 feet away if playing during COVID) length behind the person in front of them. The leader then leads the line around the room using subtle and not so subtle motions, redirects, obstacle navigating, stunts, noises, gestures, and any other additions the leader sees fit. It is the job of any given person (not the leader) to follow the exact movements of the person in front of them.

PLAY // Greetings!
“It takes all kinds to attract all kinds. So why not have all kinds in our church?”

Sometimes we treat people differently depending on how they look, talk, act, dress, smell, etc. This game seeks to provide a foundation for students to act out how their interactions might go if they were to meet someone different than themselves in the world and discuss why we acted the way we did, and how we might adjust in the future.

How to Play: All players start milling about the room. You then ask them to greet each other, perhaps just by saying “Hi.”  Players just say “Hi”, move on, and greet the next player they meet. Then ask the players to greet each other in a more specific way. Possibilities are endless depending on how you prompt them. Options could include:

Greet someone like they are a long-lost best friend
Greet someone like they are from a different ethnicity
Greet someone like they are someone you hate
Greet someone like they have bad breath
PLAY // Human Knot (Post-COVID)

Life can be challenging. Sometimes, it can be good to be caught in a problem with other people who can help you find your way out of it, and sometimes it is due to the fact that other people are a part of the story, that gets you into trouble in the first place. Any way it happens, this game shows us how we can work together to solve issues that affect us all.

How to Play: Have the students stand in a tight circle, with their hands in the center. Then have them grab other hands at random. The puzzle is for the whole group to work together to get themselves untangled. Sometimes you’ll find that the group has actually formed several smaller circles.
