LISA CLARK-DILLER // This is My Body

SHARE

verb
1. have a portion of (something) with another or others.
Lisa closes out her talk with this text from Philippians 2:1-11 :

Have the Attitude of Christ
Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

WATCH // God's Story: Passover

Jesus says as he is handing out the bread  ”This is my body broken for you”

Gods rescue plan has always been about” restoration into community” with him.

SHARE // About Your Body
Share about your favourite part of your body, and why, how it supports you, what it helps you do in life. We find this really hard! Easier to talk about fave character trait and personality and forget that our body is a gift that gets us through a lot!!! This can be a confronting challenge to realize our own ingratitude and attitudes to our bodies.

MAKE

verb
1. form (something) by putting parts together or combining substances; create.
2. cause (something) to exist or come about; bring about.

“We live with broken bodies in need of maintenance”

MAKE // A List
Let’s try making a list of all the imperfections you are looking forward to having corrected upon translation to Heaven one day.  These can be anything to do with your appearance or body.  Have you done it?

Once you’ve finished that list, make one more…
This time, imagine that Jesus is making the list of all the physical imperfections he will correct upon your translation.  Do you think His list will be different to yours?  Why or why not?  Will He be making any cosmetic changes?  Discuss with a friend.
MAKE // An Eggshell Mosaic Painting
Jesus takes our brokenness and creates in us a beautiful community.

“Jesus was alongside and with all the broken humans in his community.”

LISTEN // Frida Kahlo's Story
Listen to the story of Frida Kahlo and see how her healing came through creativity.

“We all need healing. Sometimes that can happen without curing.”

TRY

verb
1. make an attempt or effort to do something. Use, test, or do (something new or different) in order to see if it is suitable, effective, or pleasant.

“When we’re weak and in need, we aren’t merely the least of these for someone else to exercise compassion to. We are also conduits of God’s presence, God’s love and His gifts in the world.”

TRY // Make a Face with your Food
Make a face or person from cut up, raw fruits and vegetables for a snack or lunch. Try carrot rounds for eyes. A banana for your mouth. If you decide to make a whole body, use celery for the arms and legs.
While you are making your snack, think about people in your family and your friends. Make a person or face to look like you then make one to look like someone else you know. Know that God loves you and God loves them. Know that your gifts, your talents, are valuable and important.

PLAY

verb
1. engage in activity for enjoyment and recreation

“Cultivate appreciation for our Physicality”

PLAY // Indoor Obstacle Course!
Lisa shared with us the active things that her family did for fun. Have a go at making this obstacle place and playing with your family and friends. I love listening to the family cheering each other on. This is something we can all do.
PLAY // Triples
Have you ever struggled with the idea of control in your life? In your body? In how you are looked at by others? Lisa knows all too much about this as she spoke of her struggles with identity, illness, and injury, and maybe you have an experience of your own that you resonate with. Control is something we wrestle with as we determine when to keep it, when to fight for it, and when to give it up. When we take the message that we are called to go ALL IN for Jesus to make Him all in our life, that often means losing a bit of control. This game of Triples is a representation of what it looks like to be present in the moment, while also recognizing the need for others to break into our world, take a bit of control (for better or for worse) and live in harmony with those we encounter.
PLAY // Musical Hot Spot
Strong relationships are built upon the trust you earn with those around you. Those relationships give you the insight to notice when things are going right in your circles, and when things are going wrong. Without that trust, you might not see that the body of companionship you’ve built is falling apart. But if you have that trust, you can not only notice when things are off, but you can begin the process of healing the hurts that are fracturing your camaraderie. This game, Musical Hot Spot, seeks to provide ways to build trust with friends and strangers alike in hopes of beginning a solid foundation for relationships to grow that are new and old!
