REFLECT // The Mother Hen God
Jesus says in Matthew 23:37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.

If we are the Kingdom of God, in what ways are we also seeking to shield the vulnerable, to cover the cowering? There is a story, some would say apocryphal, of a farmer who was walking back through his fire ravaged property, when he came upon the charred remains of a chicken on the ground. When he knocked it over with his boot, out ran some very alive baby chicks, shielded by their mothers wings. Whether true or not, I’ve seen many animals behave in ways that remind me of Jesus’ protective nature. Check out this scrawny but doting mother. She doesn’t have many resources at her disposal, but her care is unmistakable.

While I'm excited to experience this event, it does not even compare to the invitation of Jesus. To experience him deeply and subtly. We are invited to live in the heart of God and he in ours. Now that is living, breathing, walking around art.
Let Jesus make something breathtakingly beautiful out of you today.
Allow God to mould who you are. That expression of God in you speaks volumes without using words.
